Notre Village and surroundings

Camping and lodging place Notre Village is located in central France (department of Indre) about 775 km. from Utrecht, in the green on a cul-de-sac just outside Néret.
The Indre department owes its name to the river of the same name that flows through it and is located in the Centre-Val de Loire region. This picturesque region is best known for its beautiful nature, charming towns and historic castles. The many wine estates in this region produce the AOC Châteaumeillant: a refined red and rosé (Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC)), with the rosé specifically known as vin gris.
Néret is located on the Vézelay route, one of the four main pilgrimage routes to Santiago de Compostella, which was first described in the 12th century. The history of Néret goes back at least as far as the time when the town was owned by Knight Hues de Merlay, and that history is still visible in the rich architecture of this now peaceful village.
Walkers following the southern branch of the Vézelay route through Nevers pass through the village of Néret and, so to speak, through the back garden of Notre Village.

Pilgrims are traditionally welcome at Notre Village, but only on reservation.

About 15 km from Néret lies the charming town of La Chatre. Here you will find the perfect mix of culture, nature and gastronomy. The town, which originated from a Roman camp, exudes history. Cobbled streets, medieval bridges, wooden houses, old tanneries and craft workshops. The town is closely linked to the famous writer George Sand, who found her inspiration here. A visit to the Musée George Sand and the Vallée Noire is therefore a must for literature lovers. The markets and restaurants of La Châtre are a feast for lovers of local specialities.
The capital of the Indre department is Châteauroux. This town is located about 50 km from Notre Village and is highly recommended for those who love authentic France. The heart of the city is formed by the imposing Château Raoul, built in the 10th century on the banks of the Indre River. Today, the castle is still the heart of the city. In addition to historical heritage and many monuments, Châteauroux has several museums, a surprising amount of greenery, nice shops, local markets and numerous restaurants.
